Throttle based kits
Designed to be the perfect moto/MTB crossover, Tangent's throttle based kits provide all the antics off-road riders are expecting on a machine easier to transport, easier to maintain, easier to store and easier to get out riding. You won't believe how much fun a 50lb bike can be.
Turn your favorite trail into the pump track you imagined it could be. Riding such a light machine with this much speed and acceleration will open a new world of possibilities. Bikes that don't damage the trail yet can be ridden as fast as you dare, bikes that reward flow and still allow you to make up for mistakes. Build a bike with unrivaled suspension design so nimble no moto can keep pace. You don't know what you're missing by lugging your overpowered and heavy combustion engine around. 3kW and 6kW
Tangent's versatile drive unit is offered in 3kW variant using a 40:1 internal ratio while the 6kW variant utilizes a lower 20:1 ratio. All Tangent drives units use the same 4140 Chromoly steel geartrain; rest assured, your unit is built to last and built to race at powers that will melt our imported competition. Privateers and home mechanics will love the modular components, ease of maintenance and the ability to rebuild the entire drive unit with a screwdriver and two allen wrenches, unlike the imports. All bearings are readily accessible and available online, standard bicycle components are used when possible.
The Ascent natively fits 68/73mm wide BB frames, 83mm and 100mm are supported by adding our adapters between mounting plates (width specific BB required and available). Our throttle based kits utilize Truvativ GigaPipe BB's with dual row bearings per side and ISIS splined crank interface for toughness. A heavy duty White Industries freewheel is used at the crankset to disengage the pedals under motor power. No giant chainrings or odd driveline parts required- we recommend a standard 12-36t rear cassette and 32t front chainring
Tough and tiny. Castle Creations HV controllers provide strong and reliable startup torque to get you going in any situation. The HV80 is used to provide 3kW of power at 52V while the TalonHV pushes 6kW at 52V. Aren't magnets fun?
Wired for a direct plugin to the Cycle Analyst, a single cable run is needed between the handlebars and ESC. A precision shunt provides battery current measurements and maps the throttle to motor power. All functionality of the Cycle Analyst remains and all settings are available for custom tuning (but come preset to our preferred settings and ready to ride).
Tangent's throttle kits are intended to be ridden where higher speeds are expected, such as multi-use and OHV trail systems that permit motorized vehicle access. Land managers welcome a less destructive, less obnoxious, non-polluting motorsports alternative. Shred responsibly.
